I have lived in Market Weighton since 1987 and have been married over 30 years and have four “children”. I first got roped in to help build the studio console when we launched ‘Vixen 87’ in 2003 – Julian Watson did all the electrics of course (he’s never happier than when he has a soldering iron in his hand!).
I’ve been passionate about radio since Radio Caroline and the other Pirate Radio Stations broke the BBC broadcasting monopoly in the 60′s (I was only a teenager at the time you understand!) So I lived through the 60′s – The Beatles, The Stones, hippies, mods & rockers and all that exciting stuff.
I like all sorts of music, especially the blues – I’m never happier than when I’m playing something miserable! I was always into blues since Peter Green & Fleetwood Mac – and hearing ‘Jumping at Shadows’ by Duster Bennett on a ‘Gutbucket’ sampler LP – & my favourite blues song – ‘Tore Down’ (first heard done by Alexis Korner, but I must have a dozen versions now). I’m into Jazz as well – like Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Keith Jarrett – and I’ve always liked singer songwriters like Michael Chapman, Mike Cooper & John Martyn – and new ones as well of course. I also like lots of the new blues artists and review their new releases on the show – as well as playing old blues and electric blues and some folksy roots things as well.
Since ‘Vixen 101’ launched full time in January 2009 I have been presenting the weekly Blues Programme ‘Nothing But The Blues’ on Wednesday evenings 7pm to 8pm (repeated on Thursday 11pm to Midnight), so do join me every week for an hour of ‘The Blues, the Whole Blues, and Nothing but the Blues!’
Remember that you can listen live on 101.8fm, or listen live ‘on line’ at http://www.vixen101.co.uk/listen-live/ and if you miss the programme you can catch up by listening to the weekly podcasts at http://stevejessney.podbean.com.
I also review lots of new blues releases on the show – so please send any copies of new CD releases to: Steve Jessney, Vixen 101, Market Weighton, YO43 3AH. England
I’m also involved with selling advertising for the station – advertising is vital to keep the station going so if you are involved in a business why not consider advertising on Vixen 101? We are a not-for profit voluntary staffed station so our rates are very low!
