The winners for the 2011 Birthday Raffle can now be found here. Than you to everyone who participated. The prizes should be with the winners shortly.
THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 11 January 9-10 p.m.
Some clues to the songs being played this evening: Matt’s changing the world and Mr. Dunning wants a bit. Also, two left four in the band at a price. There’s a song from the first band to sign to George Harrison’s record label and a re-named sixties band adapts part of the planets! We’ll squeeze in a further dozen songs before 9.
From 9 o’clock we hear this week’s Chart in 1979 that includes the music critics poll: “Best Single of the Year”. There’s a touch of Chic, Barbara and Neil duet, whilst Sarah cashes in on Star Wars hype. Paul hears about Joanie who’s mechanical: isn’t she? Elton writes a song on a theme which is coincidental, as the following day he hears that his messenger boy was killed in a motorbike accident.
YET MORE SOUNDS FROM THE GREAT “SEVENTIES”
THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 8-10 p.m.
To ease you in to 2012, some easy clues for some of the songs for this evening:
John sings “Make Love Not War”, known by a different title in 1973. Dionne Warwick duets with a Motown band in 1974. Billy’s third single of 1976 comes to a halt. There’s glam rock Geordie’s only Top 10 charter. A Jamaican Trio cover a Jimmy Cliff song and the Jackson Five sing their début hit.
From 9 until 10 o’clock, it’s this week’s Chart in 1978, with a great selection from Crystal Gayle, Donna Summer, Wings, Chic, Boney M., Hot Chocolate and many more!
THE SEVENTIES: A GREAT DECADE FOR POPULAR MUSIC
SATURDAY EVENING 6-8 PM
Tune in to Vixen 1O1 for the EURO HIT 40 REVIEW OF 2011 presented by TIM FISHER.
THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 8-10 p.m.
For the last “Seventies” in 2011 there’s a wide range of songs through the two hours. Gold Disc Award winning: Silver Convention, David Ruffin and Bonnie Tyler songs from 1975 and 1976. Shirley Bassey sparkles with a James Bond film theme. Paul Carrack sings in his earliest band formed in Sheffield, while Cat Stevens is out at night and Hot Chocolate are reassembling!
From 9 o’clock it’s the final chart of 1976. It includes a seasonal song from Johnny Mathis, a traditional tune from Mike Oldfield and Smokie cover a song from Australian Band, New World. The Christmas novelty song from Chris Hill is his second one, alas! Irish singer, Dana with her final Top 20 single and David Soul débuts his singing career. We conclude the evening with either Chicago or Status Quo…..depending on the clock.

THE SEVENTIES…coming up Wednesday 8-10 pm
In the first hour there’s just one Christmas song, from Gilbert O’Sullivan in 1974. Also, Albert sings about a lack of rain. A Nina Simone song is re-sung by a duet. Barry is making a request and Dee is on a stallion for a good ride. He was previously keeping it up to see what happens, but that was in 1959! The Band also had a parent surrounded in rags? Clue: Think about the Title.
From 9 until 10 in our last Seventies programme before Christmas we play out this week’s Chart from 1979. It includes a fiddler parodied by an advert for butter. Some people were pretending they were searching a store for money. Donna and Barbra duet, but on different record labels strangely! The Chart features 2 walls and another song features 2 colours. Confused….again? YES!
BAFFLED? OKAY, JUST ENJOY THE TWO HOURS……
Pocklington Live – Christmas Coffee Morning
Vixen 101 is bringing the party to the Pocklington Arts Centre on Saturday 17th December with a special programme and a fund-raising coffee morning. Join Julian Watson and Tony Barker from 9.30-1pm at the popular venue for special guests including the Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, local resident Cllr Kay West, plus live music from Pocklington singing starlet Katie Wood, and the winning entry from a festive short story competition run in conjunction with Simply Books in Pocklington. We’ll also be joined by various local, well-known faces including the town Mayor.
If it’s a respite from Christmas shopping that you need, come and join our festive celebration and enjoy seasonal refreshments including a homemade raspberry and white chocolate cake! Vixen 101 will also be selling tickets for its Third Birthday Raffle, with a top prize of a mini-cruise with P&O Ferries.
THE SEVENTIES Wednesday 14 Dec. 8-10 pm
Here we go, clues for music in the first hour: Alan’s off to Jarrow; Tina’s at a high voltage causing a fire; Madeline has freedom to start her day; Yvonne has remade a Kim Weston song; Patrick is in love with his country; Derek sings about love for his friend’s wife; Walt decides to adapt a famed classical work for disco. Confusion? Yes!
From 9 until 10, we’ll play this week’s Chart from 1973. It includes a seasonal selection from Wizzard and Slade…so no surprises? Also, Marie Osmond’s first single joins established David Essex, Roxy Music, Mott the Hoople and Alvin Stardust in the Top 10. Donny, Mud, Kiki Dee and T. Rex are also featured.
ANOTHER GREAT TWO HOURS OF SEVENTIES NOSTALGIA
Sunday Brunch, 9.30-12 noon
Join Gary Newbould for this week’s news flagship programme which has a distinctly festive flavour. Gary will be looking back on the Christmas shopping and lights switch-on events in Pocklington and Market Weighton in the last week, and hearing from Pocklington’s organiser Ali Jenkins about future plans.
Local Police chief Sergeant Pete Rogers will be providing his regular update on the crime and community safety scene; estate agent and Rotarian Chris Clubley will be in the studio with his regular news on the housing market and local charity news, and the outcome of last week’s Selby Fatstock Market.
Artist Jan Jones will join Gary after 11.30 to talk about a sale by some of her students called Starving Artists, on Tuesday at Pocklington Youth Centre, Union Street.
