Vixen 101 Studio Launch and Broadcasting Marathon
East Riding Council Chairman Kay West has officially opened Vixen 101’s Studio 1 and launched the station’s world record bid today (Thursday 26thApril).
The facility, at the station’s High Street studios in the centre of Market Weighton, has taken some three years to build and will ease the pressure on Vixen 101’s other studios.
Cllr West, who represents Pocklington on East Riding Council, was joined by the Mayor of Pocklington Cllr Graham Perry and Peter Hemmerman from Market Weighton for the ceremony.
Cllr West says: “I hope you all have a good time. Paul and Dave will be very tired at the end, I am sure.
“Thank you for doing this for putting Market Weighton and the area on the map – it’s great to have such a facility in the area. I didn’t realise that radio stations needed so much equipment so you’ve done well and this studio is very impressive.”
The first song played after Paul Atkinson and Dave Henderson began their 101-hour and eight minutes endurance marathon was “My Heart Skips a Beat” by Olly Murrs.
Paul, who organised the marathon, says: “We’re raring to go and I thank so many people
for their support – sponsors, advertisers, the Vixen 101 team and our witnesses. This is genuine community radio bringing everyone together.”
Dave says: “Although I completed 53 hours last year in our last marathon, this time we have our breaks better planned, so it should be much more enjoyable.”
THE SEVENTIES Wednesday 8-10 pm
Two hours of great Seventies music. Here are a few clues for the first hour… Giorgio goes on forever; Smoke gets in Bryan’s eyes; Neil is in blue jeans; Jennifer has the right time of the night; Noddy completes a farewell song, in an aeroplane toilet. But what have the Melodians to do with Boney M? Hmmmm!
From 9 until 10 o’clock it’s this week’s Chart from 1978. It begins with a song from “Saturday Night Fever” and ends with the Eurovision Song Contest entry that struggled to the 11th position(disgraceful)
Saturday Pocklington Live
Vixen 101 devotes Saturday morning to the focal point of the Pocklington Walking Festival. Tony Barker will be live at the town’s arts centre as the local Walkers are Welcome group stage day two of various walks around the area. Also today, we meet the winners of Pocklington’s Got Talent, talk to Pocklington Lions in their anniversary year, catch up with the Rev Les Slow as he counts down to a sponsored cycle ride, and hear about Pocklington’s Jubilee plans.
In Saturday Theatre, there is a Dickens flavour as Great Expectations comes to Junction Goole, and a special production is organised at the Tom Stoppard Theatre at Pocklington School.
All between 10 and 1 on Vixen 101.
Web shop
Some new items have been added to the Vixen 101 web shop. You can now buy things like mouse mats, tee shirts, Fox’s Den Frothy Coffee Mugs and even Fox’s Den Pants. New items will be added shortly.
Click the shopping bag logo on the right sidebar to check out the shop. All proceeds of goods sold through the shop will go towards funding the station.
Congratulations to Pocklington RUFC & Featherstone Rovers RLFC
Congratulations to two of our featured local sporting sides.
Firstly Pocklington RUFC who clinched promotion and the Northern Division, Yorkshire Division One Championship on Saturday with a 36-16 away victory at Knottingley. The men from Percy Road settled matters as a result of their 17th successive league victory and they have now completed back to back promotions.
Not to be outdone were Featherstone Rovers who caused the shock of the round in the Rugby League Challenge Cup with a 23-16 defeat of local rivals and Super league outfit Castleford Tigers.
Everyone at the Vixen 101 Sports Team would like to congratulate Pocklington RUFC and Featherstone Rovers on their tremendous achievements and we’ll be reflecting on both during this week’s Thursday Evening Sports Preview Show from 7pm.
THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 8-10 pm
As always a wide selection of music from the Decade including: a Jamaican shot sheriff, a questioning telly tune, a groover and an apology in 1976. The Doobie Brothers revive a Kim Weston song and Santana similarly with one from Fleetwood Mac.
At 9 o’clock we start the Top 20 of 21 April 1973, from Dawn to a couple of banjo players (at Dusk?)
Thursday Evening Sports Preview Show (7-10) pm
Join the gang for this Thursday’s show which will include a live interview with Lee Crooks, who currently works for our featured Rugby League side Featherstone Rovers as he looks ahead to this weekend’s game that he “pulled out of the hat” in the Challenge Cup – Rovers versus arch rivals Castleford Tigers.
We’ll be catching up with local former top flight footballer Steve Moran currently on his Premiership Pedalathon for his fundraising initiative.
We’ll be looking ahead to Pocklington RUFC’s game against Knottingley when they try and make it 17 league wins in a row and clinch promotion for the second season running.
Go Racing in Yorkshire’s Graham Orange will be live on the show giving us his preview on Saturday’s Grand National from Aintree, with hopefully one or two tips!
Local football is featured in the shape of the East Riding County League as well as games for Hull City and Leeds United in the Championship.
As well as all this there’s the regular banter, a quiz an hour, plenty of great music and what will Steve Hall have had for his tea?
Thursday (7-10)pm.
THE SEVENTIES Wednesday 8 – 10 p.m.
A wide range of songs this week includes Artistes: Procol Harum, The Clash, Freddie Starr and Dusty Springfield. Mix them with a white dove, a lady lovebug and a dirty old man…and a few others to complete the first hour!
Between 9 and 10 o’clock it’s the Chart of the second week in 1975, starting with the Rollers abeit saying “Bye,Bye” and ending with Wigan’s Ovation or Labelle due to tick tock.
Keep me company….. again!
