THE SEVENTIES Wednesday 8-10 pm

A wide selection as usual for the first hour. Donny Osmond revives a 1967 Four Seasons American song in early 1976, but unfortunately fails to Chart despite radio plays. A rarety play for The Byrds’ song planned for a rock musical. ELO’s Jeff Lynne guests on a T.Rex song in 1972. We’ll also hear Anne Murray’s personal favourite of her four Seventies releases, whilst a 1963 Ruby & The Romantics song gets a remake in 1974, but by whom?

For the 9-10 pm hour it’s this week’s Chart from 1976, and a great one for your enjoyment.

THE SEVENTIES Wednesday 21st March 8-10 pm

So what’s coming to your ears this week? We’ll have a Kenny Rogers song that starts with a sample of an actual heartbeat played backwards. Carl Douglas has shed his Kung Fu image. Suzi Quatro pounds out her second No.1 hit. Osibisa depart in 1976 and a year later Rubettes release their final Top 10 single. We’ll also hear the alternative version of the Beach Boys’: “Cotton Fields” single without the ‘country-style’[I think it's better, so there!]. Plus 10 more songs before 9.

From 9 until 10 o’clock we’ll bring back the memories of this week’s Chart from 1971. Unusual because it contains songs from John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison( with Ringo playing on the recording) as individuals. Hmmm. Does that happen in any other Top 10? A challenge for you. Happy listening!

THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 8 – 10 pm

As usual clues to some of the songs being played during the first hour: Elton John revives a Beatles song of 1967. There’s a “Titanic” themed song 20 years before Celine Dion’s! The Eurovision Song Contest winner of 1975 gets a rare playout. A version of “Shooting Star” is the fifth song in the first hour, but who sings it? We’ll also hear Cliff Richard’s 40th UK Top 10 entry that also sold two million copies.

Between 9 and 10 o’clock we’ll revive your memories from this week’s Chart in 1970. It has a very gruff start to it from a Paramount actor! But of course you’ll be singing along in better voice, because the songs are very well known…….

THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 8-10 pm

Two hours of great songs. Here are some clues: There’ll be some Spanish Hustle from 1976. Norman, a former engineer with the Beatles has his second chart song. Frankie Valli does a record deal with the Four Seasons. Olivia Newton-John covers a John Denver song. Jim, a backing vocalist for Stevie Wonder has his only solo hit. Answers not on a postcard…. you can ‘post’ them below.

Then between 9 and 10 o’clock it’s this week’s Chart for 1978.

THE SEVENTIES..A GREAT DECADE FOR GREAT MUSIC!

Another one had the original title: “Guess who’s making whoopie with your girlfriend?”. There’s also the story of a woman who took in Outlaws, fed them and sent them on their way. For Beach Boys fans there’s a 1970 song from their “Sunflower” album released as a single but didn’t chart..alas!

From 9 o’clock until 10, it’s this week’s Chart in 1979. We hopefully will hear the Top 15 of that week during the hour.

WHAT A DECADE

THE SEVENTIES: Wednesday 8 February 8-10 pm

Clues too easy last week, so here are harder ones……have a go…. There’s a South African substitute, an airlines poster theme, along with three “extras”, next to an offer with Jim. David wants to alter things and there are three ‘ones’ from 1973. Linda shoops a song from Betty, plus a January 1978 song from Abba that dares you?

Between 9 and 10 o’clock it’s this week’s Chart in 1975 that includes: Elvis P., Donnie and Marie, Mac and Katie, John Holt, Helen Reddy and maybe a touch of Footsie? (Dave and Keith frequently solve the clues, anyone else to challenge the “duo”?)

THE SEVENTIES 1st February 8-10 p.m.

More diverse sounds from The Seventies with the Shankar Family, an overnight sensation, the Lopez Sisters from New York and a song from The Man From Hong Kong. From 1979 there’s the ultimate in “crash” songs. Carpenters sing a 1967 Herman’s Hermits’ hit and we hear Joan Armatrading’s first singles chart success.

Between 9 and 10 o’clock it’s this week’s Chart in 1977 including David Soul, the Drifters, Status Quo, Tina Charles and 10 C.C….just to name a few. Listen in to hear the Top 15 that fit into the hour!
